Description
Recently a lot of people gone missing from the town at the Hills of Highriver. A mysterious tyrant unholy mage with his so called 'Crimson Cult' controls the area with influence, power and intimidation. Find and eliminate the source of the threat to save the townsfolk from the cult's havoc and doom.
Duels RPG combines elements of JRPG's and gamebooks into one awesome package. When you first begin the game, you will be asked how much prior experience you have with RPG's which will effect how many hints you will get from the game. Then you'll go through a very simple character creation process. Finally, you'll be dropped into the game.
Parts of the interface and game mechanics will be revealed to you slowly as you proceed through the tutorials. At first, you will have access to only 1 section, the tasks screen, which will tell you what to do next, such as going to the shop to buy a specific item or completing a quest from the tavern. Completing these tasks will reveal new ones as well as unlock new tabs in the interface. For example, after completing a quest whose award is some crafting materials, the crafting tab will be opened up, and your new task will be to craft your first item and equip it. This system makes learning the game incredibly straight forward. While it may seem a bit linear at first, pretty soon the game opens up more, providing you with many different kinds of equipment with very differing stats to suit different playstyles as well as quests. So while you'll start off beheading rats with your basic sword, you'll pretty quickly find yourself pulled into a holy conflict against a powerful, demonic cult.
On the topic of quests, they play very much like a gamebook. You are presented with a textual description of your surroundings and then get to make choices on how to proceed. They may lead you to your goal, or straight into the arms of an enemy. Sometimes, you may be able to talk your way out of a situation, but it's much more likely you'll find yourself in turn-based combat. The battle system is really advanced, with various weapons and armor suited to deal with various elemental types, as well as tons of spells and skills. Using these at the right time and in the right order is very important as it will help you maximize dealing damage to an opponent - for example, hitting someone with a fireball has a chance to set them on fire which will not only cause them to take damage every turn but also boost any subsequent fire attacks. All that being said, it's often possible to complete a quest while avoiding confrontation if you make the right choices, which is encouraged by the game.
The game is 100% free to play, but includes ads which can be removed with an in-app purchase. You can also occasionally watch an ad to get a perk if you decided not to remove them.
With an excellent tutorial, an engaging story and deep mechanics, Duels RPG is an excellent game for both those who are new to the genre as well as those looking for something complex to play while on the go or stuck at home
