Description
The sequel to the first Heaven and Earth War. 26 years after the great war in the first game, a craftsman named Moru sets out on a journey to solve a strange mystery. The characters from the great war have disappeared, and noone seems to know why. Guide him and his friends across the world in this epic storyline.Even though it is the sequel, this game has much less focus on randomness and humor and more focus on a serious storyline. The story is very long and has many side quests and other events that will keep you busy for hours. This game brings many features to the table while retaining a lot from the original. It still uses a menu-based system of choices for exploration and most other gameplay. It still uses the same growth system, though in this game, each character must spend a different amount of UpPoints on each statistic to advance. It also retains the same proficiency system, making it much more useful for skills this time around.
An entirely new feature is the party system. Obtain up to 8 characters, 2 of which you must perform side quests to get, and form a party of up to 4 of them to travel the world and battle with. Items and equipment have been improved as well. With many more equipment types, you now have 4 equipment slots instead of 2, in addition to your weapon slot. Weapons have different statistics that will tell you what type of damage they do and what skills they will be best used with. For example, if you're using a skill called smash, but you have a sword equipped that only does 10% crushing damage, the skill will not hit very hard, so weapon type is very important to the skills you're using. You can only cary up to 20 items in battle, the rest must be stored in the item warehouses in various places throughout the world.
The game changes based on whether it is day or night in the in-game world. Some events and locations can only be accessed either during the day or night, and the enemies you battle are different and often more difficult at night.
Techniques and magic differ from the previous game. Instead of using weapons to gain your techniques, you earn them based on taking different combat actions or using that specific weapon type. Each of the 8 categories of proficiency has it's own techniques for you to earn. There are 183 different techniques and spells in total to be earned in various ways. You can convert your saved data from the previous game to this one, thus bringing over many of the items you had earned in the previous work to this game. You do not receive most of them until close to the end of the game, but some of the items can not be earned unless you use saved data from the previous game, so it is definitely worth doing.
As one of your side quests, you can create your own mech, or robot. This is one of the characters you can choose to put in your party, and it's growth system is different from the other characters. Instead of using UpPoints, you use various types of chips to increase it's statistics. It also uses plates instead of convensional equipment, which allows you to modify and heavily customize it's stats. It can equip any weapon type, so combined with the different plates, you can set it up to use any kind of weapon you want. This game offers many different minigames for you to play. Everything from little games in the casino such as shooting or minesweeper, to randomized roguelike dungeons where you can earn great rewards. And of course, there's the obligatory battle arena for you to fight in as well. That differs from previous games in that it scales to your characters, forcing you to use strategy and planning rather than sheer level and statistic numbers.
As in the last game, there are multiple endings as well, based on how you complete the game. There's also a lot of bonus content, and a difficulty system called Hard Mode, to give the game a lot of replay value. If you're an RPG fan, this is one you'll want to play. With a branching storyline, many different characters to choose from, a huge world to explore and tons of bonus content, it's any RPG gamer's dream.
