Description
Though sadly we're still waiting on that accessible version of Final fantasy, Tripple triad does bring at least one element of the gameplay of the series, the minigame introduced first in Final Fantasy 8 to your pc, though rather than confusing matters with time travel, amnesiac heroes and psychotic sorceresses, this time you simply take on the role of an extremely pleasant player at your local board and card games hangoutt, taking part in a collectable game tournament.
For those who aren't aware, the tripple triad game involves placing tiles on a 9 x 9 grid. Each tile has attack strengths in the four cardinal directions, and when your tile has higher strength than an enemy tile, you recruit that tile to your side, earning a point in the process. Since this also means surrounding tiles will become yours, you can create chain reactions where you capture most of the board at one go. The ultimate aim is to earn more points than your opponent. Of course, not all tiles are equal, and each game you win earns you a given tile from your opponent in a given collection, so feel free to play through multiple times and collect them all.
To make life interesting, many of the tiles you will earn and the recruits to your army are things and people you might recognize from other games by Aprone, for example you might find yourself blasting away with one of the microwave towers of Towers of war, munching away with the zombie hoard from Swamp, or even overwhelming your foes with the intensive cuteness of the moon bred cats of Lunimals
The game outputs directly to many screen reading programs or indeed to microsoft sapi, though it also contains text and at least some minimal graphical representations as well, and like the rest of Aprone's games is entirely free to download and play, though any donations are welcome.
If you've ever fancied a quick to learn, but difficult to master little stratogy game, Tripple triad is definitely worth a look.
